Democratic AGs Fight Back Against Trump’s Attacks on US Postal Service & Vote-by-Mail

--

Donald Trump admitted on Fox News that he is deliberately sabotaging the Post Office and Vote-by-Mail efforts because he thinks it will help boost his re-election.

Adding to concerns, Louis DeJoy, Trump loyalist and donor, recently took over as the Postmaster General and immediately raised red flags.

This is all coming at a time when the Trump campaign and the RNC are continuing to launch attacks against states like Nevada that are trying to expand access to vote-by-mail for the electorate under the duress of the coronavirus.

Thankfully, Democratic Attorneys General are speaking up and fighting back to ensure every vote counts and stand up for the USPS.

Michigan AG Dana Nessel joined MSNBC’s All in with Chris to share what actions are available to Democratic AGs to push back against these attacks on our democracy. “We’re prepared to attack this on all different fronts to ensure that every vote counts.” Watch her on MSNBC in other appearances here, here & here.

DAGA Co-Chairs Massachusetts AG Maura Healey and Oregon AG Ellen Rosenblum both reacted to these recent attacks saying, “I’ll do everything in my power to defend Oregonians’ — & all Americans’ — right to vote” and “I will use every tool I have to make sure your vote is counted.” Watch AG Healey on CNN here & here.

Pennsylvania AG Josh Shapiro said, “I too am deeply troubled by what we are seeing from postal officials, the President and his campaign. I’m on it.” Watch AG Shapiro on CNN here & here, on MSNBC here , here & here and on the TODAY show here.

Nevada AG Aaron Ford said, “Many have voiced their concerns to me about the President’s efforts to suppress votes in the upcoming elections by attacking and undermining the @USPS. I hear you. And rest assured, I’m looking into it.

Vermont AG TJ Donovan said, “The attacks by President Trump on the USPS and vote by mail are unlawful and unconstitutional. We will fight to preserve our postal service and safe + fair elections.”

Maryland AG Brian Frosh said, “Trump sounds like he is planning to use the USPS to sabotage the election. We will see him in court if he tries.

Connecticut AG William Tong said, “I am actively engaged in discussions with Attorneys General across the nation to mount a vigorous legal defense of our postal service and the legitimacy of our election. Watch AG Tong on CNN here and on MSNBC here.

North Carolina AG Josh Stein said, “I am reviewing all legal options to protect this election.” Watch AG Stein on CNN here and on CNBC here.

Minnesota AG Keith Ellison said, “As MN AG I’m looking at *all* my options for holding them accountable as soon as I can.”

New York AG Tish James said, “I am swiftly examining every legal option to protect the postal service and ensure every eligible voter can cast their ballot come November.”

Rhode Island AG Peter Neronha said, “We also want them to reverse the changes that were already made.”

Virginia AG Mark Herring said, “Please know that *YOUR VOTE WILL COUNT THIS FALL* and that there is work going on as we speak to determine how to push back on this ongoing attack on our democracy.” Watch AG Herring on CNN here.

Washington AG Bob Ferguson said his office “is filing a lawsuit against the Trump administration for Postal Service cuts…” Watch AG Ferguson on CNN here & here and MSNBC here.

And California AG Xavier Becerra said, “undermining the postal service threatens to undermine free and fair elections.”

Notably silent, though not surprising, are Republican Attorneys General … even as other Republicans speak out on these attacks. This continues the trend of Republican AGs kowtowing to Trump’s dangerous agenda and the GOP AGs continued failures to serve the people during the COVID pandemic.
