Democratic AGs On Trump’s Voter Fraud Push: “DO NOT VOTE TWICE”
During his official visit to North Carolina and in Pennsylvania, President Trump encouraged people to vote more than once during the same election. This is another example of Trump spreading misinformation and sowing confusion around the election.
- Once at the tarmac, upon arriving in North Carolina, Trump said, “Send it in early and then go and vote.”
- And again, when talking to a local news station (WCET) Trump said, “Well, they’ll go out and they’ll go vote, and they’re going to have to go and check their vote by going to the poll and voting that way.”
- And in Pennsylvania, Trump said “sign your mail-in ballot, ok, you sign it and send it in and then you have to follow it. And if on election day or early voting that is not tabulated and counted, you go vote.”
North Carolina Attorney General Josh Stein quickly reminded folks to “vote, but do not vote twice.”
Pennsylvania AG Josh Shapiro was equally quick the next night, reminding folks, “one person, one vote.”
As the top law enforcement officials and chief legal officers in their states, Democratic Attorneys General were quick to support AG Stein and remind voters the rules of the road.
- Maryland AG Brian Frosh: “Please, folks, don’t follow Trump’s advice. It’s a crime, and we will prosecute anyone who tries — whomever they vote for.” [link]
- Massachusetts AG Maura Healey: “It is illegal to vote twice. It is also easy to get caught. That’s like paying your taxes with Monopoly money. Do not pass go.” [link]
- Nevada AG Aaron Ford: “Nope, don’t do it. It’s illegal and you’ll get prosecuted.” [link]
- Michigan AG Dana Nessel: “Don’t try this at home. I will prosecute you.” [link]
This continues the trend of Democratic AGs leading the fight to protect democracy and help ensure every vote is counted. As a reminder, Democratic AGs sued to reverse harmful changes at the USPS that threaten the successful execution of vote-by-mail.
While Democratic AGs are working hard to make sure every vote is counted this November, Republican AGs have remained silent on both Trump’s dangerous voting comment and on his attacks on the USPS.
